I always tell my crew to use the “stretch test.” This is the only way to know for sure. Wait for the shirt to cool down. Don’t do it while it’s hot! Once it is cold give that print a good yank. If the ink cracks like dry mud in a desert it is undercooked. You need more heat or more time. But if it stretches and snaps back like a fresh rubber band you are a master of the craft.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Why Is My Ink Getting Thick?<\/span><\/h2>\n

I get this question all the time. “Hey, my ink feels like peanut butter. Is it ruined?”<\/span><\/p>\n

Here is the deal. Plastisol is lazy. It is the only thing in the world that won’t work until you force it to. It will stay wet on your screen for weeks while you go on vacation. It won’t dry out like water-based ink.<\/span><\/p>\n

If your ink is getting too thick to pull it is usually for two reasons. One: your shop is like a sauna. High heat in the room starts to “pre-gel” the ink in the jar. Two: you might have grabbed a water-based ink by mistake and left it open.<\/span><\/p>\n
